  • Win the war on weeds in your garden beds and pathways by recycling cereal and cardboard boxes.  Place them flatly on the ground, sprinkle the cardboard with water to soften and spread your mulch on top.
  • If you are carpeting your home, check out the eco-friendly carpets.  They’re made from recycled plastic food containers.  They’re soft and available in numerous colors.
  • This home remedy rids Aphids on houseplants.  Measure 2 tablespoons of liquid dish soap and pour into a 1 gallon container.  Fill the container with water.  Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.  Spray the plant once every 10 days – 2 weeks.
  • Free fertilizer for houseplants:  When ever you boil eggs, allow the water to cool, and then you can give your potted herb and houseplants a drink.  The egg shells are rich in calcium.
  • Bamboo flatware and plates are a more environmentally friendly choice over plastic and styrofoam.  They are great for indoor and outdoor use.   No bleaches or dyes are used and they are biodegradable in 4-6 months.  Available online.
  • Instead of plastic containers to germinate seedlings and young plants, try ‘Peat Pots’.   They are planted directly into the ground.  The plants developing root system penetrates the peat pot and encourages a sturdy root system.  They are biodegradable.
